OGG Vorbis in Audio Conversion

What?

OGG is a container format most commonly used to contain the excellent audio codec OGG Vorbis. It is a lossy, but high quality and opensource, music format that outperforms mp3. It was originally designed to beat mp3 after awkward mp3 patents and licenses were announced, and it has achieved that.

Current usage of audio formats sees mp3 as still being more popular than ogg vorbis, but more and more commercial audio applications see ogg being used. For example, all the audio on wikipedia is stored in the ogg format, and Virgin radio uses the ogg format quite proudly. You can find out more on the Vorbis homepage.
